Introducing Chico and Bo's Story

Wow April already!! Well, I started a new job at Allied Career School and I love it!! The birds are all great. Chico is the newest member of the flock. He is a Mexican Red Head. I didn't think he was at first because of all his Yellow but an Amazon expert, Howard Voren told me is a pure Mexican. He is just old..LOL
A friend of mine called him an animated feather duster..LOL
I was going to tell you all about Bo, my mouth of the south.
Bo is a Mealy Amazon who was given to me by a friend in RI that owns a rescue. He came from a bad home. I was told he had a few homes. I have had him for 2 years now. He is very loud and I can see why some people didn't want him..LOL But I will never give up on him. He is just very misunderstood and if I talk to him in a soft voice he quiets right down.
Well, it's late, gotta get to bed. Here is a picture of Chico..
Night Night..

Tuesday Already?

Wow I can't believe it's already Tuesday. I am going to be way behind in my stories about the birds. I just started back to work yesterday and I am finding it a bit hard to keep up. I think I'll write once or twice a week and fill in the days then. I'll start that tomorrow. All the birds are doing well and adjusting to me going back to work I think. I am trying to spend as much time with them as I can each day when I come home as well.
Right now I need to finish dinner. I'll write more tomorrow. I'll tell you all about Bo the Mealy.

Sunday

Today Steven and I went to see the lady he has been doing work for 17 years. Mrs. Sluder. We took Rocky with us to visit. Rocky loves to go for rides in the car and she does not mind the carrier at all. She sings and talks the whole trip. Rocky's first home was with an elderly woman who died while Rocky was still in her care. Rocky says some things still that I am sure the elderly woman taught her. Visiting Mrs. Sluder made Rocky happy and I know it made Mrs. Sluder happy.
I start my job tomorrow and the hours will be from 8 to 5. I won't have as much time with my birds as I have had in the past 3 weeks being home full time. I know they will miss the contact.

Tomorrow I am going to write about the rest of my Flock, Amazons first. One each day. I will start with Bo the Mealy because he is the biggest. Today we are just spending time with the birds and getting things done before I go back to work.

I can't wait until I have saved enough again to start getting the birds new cages and toys..

Rocky Girl

Today is a wonderful sunny day with temps around 55. The birds are all pretty quiet today which is unusual for them. I have Rocky down stairs with me at the moment on my shoulder. She loves to just sit with me and loves to have her head scratched and rubbed. She is one of my best talkers. She just loves to sing and talk and argue with me each day. I would have to say she is the one who is closest to me of all the Amazons.
Once the weather gets a bit warmer and I have saved a little money I plan to build an outside aviary for my birds to enjoy. We have the perfect spot on the deck. I hope to be able to hang nets and swings and have lots of play areas with some nice toys for them as well.
My dream is to have a Parrot Wonderland someday. A room for them with central air and heat, natural sunlight shining through skylights, waterfalls, natural non-toxic trees and plants and lots of room for them to fly and play.
The Photo above is my Rocky Girl playing in her cat house..What a silly girl she is..
Rocky is 14 years old. Her hatch date which I had to make up because I never got her original one is March 12th.
I got Rocky from a lady in Pa. who was a hoarder of birds. I got 3 birds out of that house. I am so blessed to have gotten her. She is such a sweet, funny and gentle Amazon. I know my life is so much richer for having the chance to share it with her.
I could not ask for a better best friend in any animal or human. I have a few video's at the youtube site under dedicatedtoamazons for you to look at. Rocky has at least 3 of them there.
They are really funny and I can almost guarantee you'll fall in love just as I have.
I love you Rock!!

My Amazons

I am owned by 16 Amazons. They are as follows:
4 Red Loreds
Bob- 18
Marley-18
Ziggy-3
Tat2-3

1 Salvin's Red Lored a sub-species of the Red Lored
Aztec-17

1 Yellow Crown
Charley-18

1 Yellow Nape
Rocky-14

1 Plain Mealy
Bo-18

3 Orange Wings
Harley-6
Weebles-4
Waddles-2

3 Blue Fronts
Leroya-28
Baby-12
Carino-2

2 White Fronts
Keebler-4
Chilipepper-4

Each one has their own story. Some from good pasts others from very bad pasts.
One thing I have learned over the years is that most people who buy Amazons do not do their homework about the bird before they buy. This is why so many end up abused or passed around from home to home or end up in rescues.
The ones I have are here to stay forever. Even the ones I can never touch will get as much love and attention as I can possibly give.
Most of my birds are cage free. If they get too aggressive during breeding season then they are cages for that period of time.
I will post a story about each Amazon and also tell you about my other birds who I share my life with.
These birds are my life.
